Vodafone Beats Orange in Ya.com Bidding
Press Release -
May 16, 2007
UK-based mobile phone giant, Vodafone Group, has won the bidding for
Spain’s fourth largest broadband ISP, Ya.com, according to newspaper
reports published earlier this week.
Vodafone reportedly outbid France Telecom’s Orange, and will pay €400
for the internet provider, which has been owned by Deutsche Telekom
for the past seven years. A formal announcement of the deal is
expected after final terms are settled upon by the two parties.
Ya.com currently boasts around 400,000 subscribers, but trails
Telefonica, Orange, and cable incumbent, Ono, in the Spanish broadband
market. Deutsche Telekom bought the company in 2000 at a price of
around €550 million.
