Verizon Wireless to Unveil MediaFLO
Mobile Television Service
Press Release - 7:30 am on January 6, 2007

America’s second largest cell phone carrier, Verizon Wireless, will
announce the much-anticipated launch of its mobile television service
this weekend, according to executives involved with the service.
The announcement is expected to take place this Sunday at the Consumer
Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Verizon CEO, Denny Stingl; CMO, John
Stratton; and executive VP, Bon Ingalls will all participate in a
special press conference about the service.
Verizon’s live mobile television offering is powered by Qualcomm’s
MediaFLO technology, and is expected to offer video quality of 24 to
30 frames-per-second. Sources say that it will initially launch with
fewer than a dozen channels, but will include content from several
major broadcasting networks.
Verizon Wireless already offers on-demand video clips via its V CAST
multimedia network, but the MediaFLO service will be the carrier’s
first live mobile television offering.
