Verizon Wireless Introduces Unlimited, Flat-Rate Cell Phone Plan
Press Release - February 19, 2008
America’s second biggest cell phone carrier, Verizon Wireless,
launched an unlimited flat rate calling plan for high-end customers
yesterday, in a move that could win over these so called “power
users” from rival service providers.
For $99 per month, Verizon’s high-volume customers can now call
anyone in the United States at any time of day. This new pricing
plan is being hailed as an illustration of how mobile phone coverage
is transforming into a staple service, following the same trajectory
as fixed-line telephones.
Verizon’s move could be the “game changer” that sets off competition
from rivals like AT&T, and establishes unlimited, flat-rate calling
as a standard for major wireless providers.
“I’m certain AT&T will react,” said one analyst, William Ho, on
behalf of Current Analysis. “AT&T, the biggest competitor to Verizon,
is bound to match.”
