Rogers Media to Acquire
Citytv Assets from CTVglobemedia
Press Release - June 13, 2007
Rogers Media, a unit of Canada’s biggest cable company, announced
Monday evening that it is purchasing five local television stations
from CTVglobemedia, at a cost of C$375 million.
Canada’s telecom and media regulator, the CTRC, ordered CTVglobemedia
to sell the five-station Citytv franchise after its C$1.7 billion
acquisition of the CHUM radio and television conglomerate. The
affected Citytv channels are based in Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton,
Calgary, and Vancouver.
This
agreement replaces an earlier tentative deal in which CTVglobemedia
had agreed to sell its A-Channel TV stations, also part of CHUM, to
Rogers Media.
