Qwest CEO, Richard
Notebaert, Announces Retirement
Press Release - June 12, 2007
Richard Notebaert, the CEO and Chairman of Qwest Communications,
announced yesterday that he plans to retire from his position,
effective as soon as a successor can be selected.
Notebaert took the reigns at the embattled Qwest five years ago, after
former CEO, Joseph Nacchio, was fired due to allegations of insider
trading activity. In his term as Chief Executive, Notebaert has guided
the embattled telecom operator back to stability, helping it to
generate its first ever year-end profit in 2006.
“I am
extremely proud of our accomplishments during the past five years and
have full confidence in the leadership at Qwest,” Notebaert said in a
company statement. “The time has come for me to spend more time with
family and focus on other commitments.”
Notebaert’s retirement will not result in any strategic or operational
changes, the company said. No specific timetable has been set for
selecting a new CEO and Chairman.
