Nokia to Release WiMAX-Enabled Devices
in Early 2008
Press Release -
April 19, 2007

Finnish handset giant, Nokia, revealed on Monday that it expects to
begin shipping its first WiMAX-equipped mobile devices in early
2008.
WiMAX is a long-range, high-speed data transmission standard that
promises to be cheaper and more efficient than 3G cellular
technologies. The equipment and infrastructure used by the WiMAX
standard are much cheaper to obtain and deploy than HSDPA and EV-DO
networks.
WiMAX has gained the support of big-name companies like Intel and
Samsung, as well as America’s leading handset maker, Motorola, which,
like Nokia, aims to bring its first WiMAX products to market in early
2008.
