Nokia and Samsung Agree on Joint DVB-H Mobile TV Standard
Press Release -
April 18, 2007
Finnish cell phone manufacturer, Nokia, revealed earlier this week
that it will work with Samsung Electronics to promote an open mobile
TV standard based on DVB-H.
By
agreeing on a single DVB-H-based standard, Samsung and Nokia, are
hoping to encourage greater adoption of broadcast TV for mobile
devices, and gain the upper hand over manufacturers and carriers using
alternative technologies like DMB and MediaFLO.
The concept of mobile television has gained plenty of interest over
the past couple of years, but services have yet to take off in the
mainstream consumer market, due in part to the lack of a single,
globally recognized standard for wireless broadcasting.
