Press Release -
May 15, 2007

Microsoft unveiled a range of VoIP phones, handsets, and other
devices that run its Unified Communications software over the
weekend, showing office managers how to replace traditional
telephones with converged communication systems that deliver email,
instant messaging, and voice calls over the internet.
The software giant has worked with no less than nine hardware
manufacturers, including Samsung Electronics, LG-Nortel, and NEC, in
developing its unified communications strategy for enterprise devices.
Microsoft executives expect the market for web-based phone systems to
continue gaining momentum over the next three years, ultimately
generating billions of dollars in new revenue for the company.
The new products include an IP handset from NEC that connects to a
computer’s USB port, and a Bluetooth-enabled wireless headset from
LG-Nortel.
