Messaging Expected to Remain Europe’s
Leading Mobile Data Service
Press Release -
January 29, 2007
Wireless messaging will still be Europe’s leading mobile data service
five years from now, according to a recent study by JuniperResearch.
The research firm expects mobile data revenues across the continent to
grow to €9 billion annually in 2011, but predicts that messaging
services such as SMS, multimedia messaging, mobile instant messaging,
and wireless email will account for about 72% of this impressive
figure.
“Infotainment” services, meanwhile, such as news reports and video
clips, are expected to outperform older types of mobile
personalization like ringtones and screensavers in the coming years.
A
strong majority (68%) of European cell phone users, however, still say
they have no interest in any wireless data services aside from basic
text and picture-based messaging.
