Voice over IP software developer, HelloSoft Inc., launched a new
mobile VoIP platform for the Symbian operating system this week, in
an attempt to enable IP calling on the next generation of Symbian
smartphones.
HelloDual-Mode, as the name implies is designed to ride the oncoming
tidal wave of dual mode devices by allowing users to make cheap
wireless VoIP calls when inside a Wi-Fi hotspot.
“As VoIP technology is becoming more prevalent in day to day life,
businesses are not the only ones benefiting from it; more and more
consumers are turning to VoIP to keep in touch with friends and family
from their home PCs,” commented Symbian’s vice president of ecosystem
development, Mike Whittingham. “HelloDual-Mode on Symbian OS will help
handset manufacturers bring the VoIP PC experience to mass market
mobile phone users more easily and in a shorter time frame.”
“With VoIP technologies rapidly changing the mobile device landscape,
HelloSoft is on the forefront of these technologies by continually
delivering the most optimized VoIP for mobile devices,” explained Ron
Victor, the General Manager of Marketing and Business Development at
HelloSoft. “HelloDual-Mode now enables handset manufacturers targeting
the mass market to build multi-mode handsets based on Symbian OS.”
