Google Acquires Marratech Video
Conferencing Software
Press Release -
April 23, 2007

Internet search giant, Google Inc., has purchased full and exclusive
rights to a video conferencing solution produced by Marratech AB, a
Swedish software developer.
For the moment, Google will only use the software internally, as a
tool for its employees, according to a company spokesman. The search
giant has not yet said whether it ultimately intends to offer the
technology to its users, or integrate it with an existing product like
Google Talk.
The Marratech technology, which allows for audio and video
conferencing, as well as application sharing and instant messaging,
would likely fit well with Google’s collaborative online software
suite, complimenting existing services like Google Docs, Spreadsheets,
and Calendar.
Marratech itself will continue to function as an independent company,
but its flagship conferencing software is now fully owned by Google,
and the engineers responsible for it have become employees of the
search giant.
