May 3, 2007
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission has given its seal of
approval to a new WiMAX-class laptop card for Clearwire’s wireless
broadband network. The new device will be available in Clearwire
markets beginning in the second half of this year.
“The FCC’s approval of our laptop card is a significant milestone in
bringing to market a ‘true broadband’ wireless service with a device
that facilitates even greater portability than our existing modem
permits,” commented Clearwire’s president and Chief Operating Officer,
Perry Satterlee.
Manufactured by Motorola Inc., the new modem fits into a standard Type
II laptop card slot, and works with the Microsoft Windows XP and Vista
operating systems
