April 21, 2007

Apple’s much-hyped cell phone product, the Apple iPhone, is on
schedule to hit the U.S. retail market in June, a leading executive
with wireless carrier, AT&T, said earlier this week.
“Our expectations are good. Our testing has been good,” AT&T’s Chief
Operating Officer, Randall Stephenson, commented at a business
luncheon on Wednesday. “The iPhone is on target to launch in June.”
The launch of an iPod cell phone has been anticipated for over a year
now, and has received special attention since Apple CEO, Steve Jobs,
formally unveiled such a device in January.
Stevenson explained that more than 1 million customers have expressed
interest in buying the Apple iPhone, which will by offered exclusively
in the U.S. by AT&T’s wireless division, Cingular Wireless.
Mr. Stevenson could not promise exactly how many of the phones would
initially be available, but said that “we got a million people waiting
to buy it so we’re hoping we get a million.”
