American Internet Users Go Wireless
Press Release -
March 5, 2007
More than a third of U.S. internet users have now “cut the cord”
according to survey by the Pew Internet and American Life Project.
34% of web users reported having used a Wi-Fi hotspot or cellular
broadband network, compared to just 22% in February 2004.
Pew found that 19% of users now have a wireless network at home, with
that segment nearly doubling in the past year. 27%, meanwhile, say
they have picked up wireless internet somewhere other than their home
or workplace.
These staggering increases are being brought on by the high
availability of public Wi-Fi networks, as well as the fact that almost
all new laptops and cell phones include some kind of wireless internet
technology.
