BT Broadband User Base
to Hit 10 Million

British telecom and broadband giant, BT, expects to sign-up its 10
millionth DSL subscriber by the end of this week, representing net
growth of over 3000% since mid-2002.
BT
and its resellers currently serve some 80% of the UK’s broadband
customers, and account for 89% of new subscriptions, the former
telecom incumbent recently revealed, gradually eclipsing the market
share of cable operator, NTL:Telewest.
This trend is largely due to the much wider availability of DSL
broadband services, in relation to cable. BT claims that its
high-speed internet services are now accessible in 249 out of 250 UK
homes.
The growth of Britain’s DSL market will likely be further bolstered
when wireless carrier, Vodafone, begins reselling BT’s broadband
services on January 8.
