AT&T to Launch Live Video Calling for
Cingular Wireless Customers
Press Release -
March 31, 2007
Cingular Wireless (AT&T) unveiled a new video calling service this
week at CTIA Wireless 2007, which will allow 3G cell phone users to
send a live video feeds over the airwaves while in the middle of a
call.
Standard MMS services already allow customers to send prerecorded
video messages to other users, but AT&T’s new Video Share application
will take things one step further, making it possible to initiate live
video streams in the middle of a conversation. Although it only works
on a one-way basis at any given moment, users can toggle the direction
of the video stream in mid-call.
AT&T said that Video Share would be rolled out this summer for
Cingular customers in 50 U.S. markets. The company did not immediately
offer any pricing information, or specify which handset models the new
service would work with.
