Excelocity Launches XL-Gateway Framework with Zarlink and Mindspeed
Ottawa Ontario, Sept 29, 2008 - Excelocity Inc., a leading developer of embedded Voice/Video gateways for telecom vendors is demonstrating it’s new XL- Gateway Framework Software Development Tool Kit at Broadband World Forum. It is launching the new product in conjunction with its partners Mindspeed and Zarlink.
“We are pleased to be launching our new software product” said Goutam Shaw Founder and President of Excelocity Inc. “The universal nature of our XL-Gateway Framework via its adaptor modules allows us and/or our customers to quickly customize and develop a portfolio of Gateway solutions using a variety of 3rd party hardware and software platforms.”
The Excelocity XL-Gateway Framework introduces a new class of open SDK for the development of embedded Multimedia (Voice/Video) gateways. It significantly reduces the product development costs from multi-millions of dollars to hundreds of thousands and the time to market from years to months. The XL Gateway Framework presents a modular, highly scalable architecture with high level APIs for Call, Media, Signaling and OAMP control. Available for both embedded Linux and VxWorks platforms, it has been pre-integrated with 3rd party SIP, ISDN and CAS protocol stacks and provides the multimedia path and call control for all combinations of FXS, FXO, ISDN, CAS and SIP calls over PSTN, LAN and WAN networks. The framework provides powerful APIs that remove the complexity of managing the underlying hardware resources and enable designers to easily build Next Generation services and applications.
The Carrier-class XL-Gateway Framework Software Development Frameworks modular design allows it to be quickly integrated with custom hardware platforms to accelerate application development. It has been integrated with the reference HW platform containing Mindspeed’s Comcerto® 300 Series Media Stream Processor and Zarlink’s VoiceEdge Control Processor 2 (VCP2) and the Next Generation Carrier Chip set (NGCC). The combination of Excelocity’s XL-Gateway software, Mindspeed’s DSP and Zarlink’s NGCC devices will now provide telecom and enterprise VoIP equipment vendors with fully functional, highly scalable hardware and software gateway reference designs. These can be used for integrating VoIP gateways into MSANs, IP-DSLAMs, MTU/MDUs, IP-PBXs, and Multimedia routers.
The combined solution is currently running on the integrated Mindspeed Comcerto 300 evaluation boards, which are connected to Zarlink’s long-loop, high-performance VoiceEdge VE790 and next-generation VE792 NGCC SLIC/SLAC Evaluation boards – all under the control of the Excelocity Gateway Framework. This combination has been bench tested for a 72 port MDU application, which is expected to be an attractive new high capacity solution for the European and Asian markets.
“We are excited to work with Excelocity for offering a combined call and media gateway solution,” said Kurt Michel, director of marketing for carrier VoIP products at Mindspeed. “The ability of Excelocity’s call and media control framework to easily integrate IP and TDM signaling protocol stacks such as SIP and ISDN or CAS with customer-specific software is a perfect complement for our Comcerto 300 Series family. Through our integrated solution, we now offer our joint customers all of the elements and expertise necessary to implement a successful media gateway solution.”
“Excelocity has been instrumental in working with us on new applications for our next generation VE792 series high density SLIC/SLAC chips” said Shahin Sadeghi, segment marketing manager for carrier-class products for Zarlink. “They have built a number of solutions, including XL-Gateway Framework with our chip sets and we will be working closely with them and our joint customers on deploying the next generation of high density solutions like those for MDU copper or fiber-based applications.”
With Excelocity’s XL-Gateway Framework and the robust hardware platforms of its partners, equipment vendors have a clear starting point for developing their highly robust and scalable embedded gateway solutions. A live demonstration of the combined reference solution will be shown at the Zarlink booth at the Broadband World Forum in Belgium from September 30 to October 2.
